Louisiana poet laureate Ava Leavell Haymon leads William Stafford program: Lake Oswego events

Haymon’s most recent poetry collection is Eldest Daughter, published by Louisiana State University Press. She has written three previous collections, Why the House Is Made of Gingerbread, Kitchen Heat, and The Strict Economy of Fire, all also from LSU Press, and edits the Barataria Poetry Series, which will premiere Spring 2014.

Her poems have appeared in journals nationwide. Prizes include the Louisiana Literature Prize for poetry in 2003, the L.E. Phillabaum Poetry Award for 2010, the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters 2011 Award in Poetry. Why The House Is Made Of Gingerbread was chosen as one of the top ten poetry books of 2010 by Women’s Voices for Change. A committed teacher of poetry writing, she worked as Artist in the Schools for a number of years, teaches poetry writing during the school year in Louisiana and, during the summer, directs a retreat center for writers and artists.

The ART EXTRAVAGANZA — a Tools & Techniques Trade Show: Clackamas County Arts Alliance will present the special event for artists, teachers and students working in all media from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at the Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street, Lake Oswego,

There will be an array of new and old-favorite products to test and sample: Gamblin, Golden, Derwent, Strathmore, Winsor & Newton, Faber-Castell, Savoir Faire, and more will be represented. Throughout the day, artists will demonstrate technique, including: René Eisenbart (watercolor), Marla Baggetta (pastels), Jan von Bergen (ceramics), Scott Gellatly (oil on panel), Cindy Lommasson (Chinese brush painting), Sheila Ford Richmond (Neopaque and Lumiere fabric paint) and more! *12:30 to 3 p.m.: Peter Vaughan Shaver of Sound Advice, LLC, will lead Copyrights for Creatives. Mr. Shaver, a well-known Portland attorney specializing in arts and entertainment law, often works with artists and is a popular presenter.

*3:30 to 6 p.m., join Tiffany Meyer of Numa Marketing in an interactive training focused on Creative Marketing Pieces that Get Results. Each workshop is $ 30. Lecture demonstrations will be offered by Corrine Loomis Dietz (Acrylic Innovations) and Scott Gellatly (Understanding Contemporary Oil Painting Materials), $ 7 each.
